POST OFFICE GRADING

Hastings Representations to Department In supporting the representations to be made by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce for the re-grading , of the Hastings Post Office as a chief post office, the Hastings Borough Council is to point- out- to the authorities that' there are already motor services operating between Hastings aud the outer districts, such as Pakowhai, Twyford, Fernhill, Haumoana and such- localities aud that in cousequence no- great difliculty would be involved in. making use of these daily services for the carrying of the mails. It has already been represented that there appears to be no 'econoimc reason why the settlers and residents of those districts should have to have their mail despatched through the Napier office when they are contiguous to the Hastings Postal district, and the bulk of the business from these - areas is done .with and in Hastings. * The council is also drawing attention to the fact that at the present time all telephone toll calls go through the Napier exchange. and it is contended tha"t there is no necessity for it to do so when there' is available such a Post Office as at present situated in Hastings.
