Annual Report Notes Successful Season
(From
WAIPAWA, This Day. The following is the report of the committee to be presented at the annual meeting of the Waipawa Golf Club : — "The season, which opened on April 13, proved successful in all respects. A moderately good winter enabled the programme to be carried out with little alteration, and the varioi*> competitions were completed before the. close of the season. The substantial increase in membership at times tended towards congestion on the links, but this the committee hopes to overcome by the addition of extra holes in the course. The meiubership 6as increased substantially, the totaL being 107 against 76 for 1935. The coming season is assurer of a further heavy increase. The balauce sheet shows a credit of £72 12/8 against £26 2/10 at the end of the 1935 season. The club engaged in its full complement of inter-club matches during the season, all of which were greatly enjoyed by our members. The aggregate for the season resulted slightly in the club's favour. The annual tournament was again held, a two-day tournament being held on August 15 and 16th resulting in a profit of £7 10/-. The ladies again kindly undertook the management of the annual ball, and this most enjoyable affair resulted in an addition to the club's funds of £11 12/6. The thanks of all members are due to the ladies for this gne effort. The links were maintained in good order throughout the season, and in this regard our thanks are due to Mr Strang, as groundsman, and to Mr Wheeler for his efforts in this direction. The club's thanks are again due to the ladies' section for the splendid catering arrangements during the season, and particularly in regard to inter-club days. To all who assisted in the successful operations of the club during fche past season, the committee tenders sincere thanks, and expresses the hope that the same enthusiastic assistance niay be rendered the incoming committee for the ensuing season. To the Press the committee also entends its thanks for the publication of reports of the rlug's operations during the past season, such publicity having been oi interest and assistance to members. Indications are for a much earlier opening this season. the wet summer having kept the greens in good condition. With a little seeding and top dressing the greens promise to be in •better condition tlian during past seasons, and should be ready.for play very shortly.
