WAIPUKURAU THEATRE
"Amateur Gentleman" Adapted from Jeft'ery Farnol's bestselling novel of the same name, /'The Amateur Gentleman," showing at the Waipukurau Theatre on Friday at 8 and on Saturday at 2.30 and 8, is, without hesitation, the best produced and most thrilling and colourful costume drama ever screened. Doug. Fairbanks, jun., has not allowed his aares as • a producer to weigbt him down, and in scoring a personal triumph he reveals a viril© pereonality 3trongly reminiscent of his famous father* The picture is packed with action from start to finish. One of the highlights is the realistic knuckle fight between Barnabas and the "Lincoln Butcher." The ,romantic scenes between Fairbanks and Elissa Landi are masterpieces of restraint. Gordon Harker's Natty Bp,U is a perfect gem of cockney characterisations and is about the nest performance he has ever given. Esme Percy stands out in a rathe* smalier part than usual as a "fop." Prominent araong the rest of the cast are Erank Pettingell, Basil Sydney, Athole Stewai-t and Hugh Williams. The photography is flawless and Thornton Freeland, who directed, has kept the pace going right up to the fadoout, The supporting progiramme includes a coloured cartoon "Cock of the Walk."
