PAYMENT OF RATES
Rush Sets in at Hastings £1100 by to-day's mail The annual msh 'ior the payment of rates has now set in in earnest at the Hastings borough offices, the final day for payment before the imposition of the 10 per cent penalty being less than two weeks off. Up to last evening, the rate clerk reports, £16,031 had been paid in, yesterday being another busy day. This morning's mail was a rich one, payments aggregating over £1100, and throughout the oiorning there was a continual stream of ratepayers meet ing their obligations. The total atnounf struck for this year was £42,000, but all this will not be eoilected, there invariably being at least 5 per eent outStanding at the end off, "the financial year. Just over half the rate struck by the Havelock North Town Board has been eoilected, the total amount to h'and up to last evening being £1750 out o f the £3150 struck
