Waipukurau Nightwatchman Chases Two Men

WAIPUKURAU, Last night. An attempt to break into Roaeh's Buildingg in Ruataniwha street, Waipukurau, at 2 o'clock on Tuesday morning was frustrated by the appearance of the nightwatchman on his Tound. Two men or youths were concerned in the attempt, one being on the watch. As soon as the nightwatchman appeared, both the men xan away up the hill at the baek of the buildings and made good their escape. A tyre lever wKich had obviously been used in an attempt to force the door was left on the ground. Several distinct marlcs made by the level are to be seen on the door afid jamb but exeept for these marks in the wood, the door is undamaged. The poliee are investigating.
