HEART FAILURE

Verdict at Inquest on Mr T. P. McCarthy

That death was due to coronary throinbosis, a cause of heart failure, was the Verdict of Mr. A. E. Bedford, I J.P., Napier coroner, at the resumed inquest "this morning into the death %>f Timothy Patriek McCarthy, of Poirt A.huriri, who died at the Napier Public Hospital on December 21 last. Mr. McOarthy, who took an entkusiastie inlerest in public affairs of the distTict, was secretary of the Napier Labour Day Sports' Committee aad the Port Ahuriri Oaledonian Society, in addition to being a member of the Napier Seeoit dary Education Board. Medical evidence by Dr. A. G. Clui i., ucting-medical superintendent at the Napier Public Hospital, revealed that Mr. McCarthy was adinitted to hospital in the afternodn of December 21, 1936. He was extremely ill and dieV1 iome four hours later. A post-mortem dxamination was ordered, but this revealed notliing that could warrant n certificate as to the cause of death. Detective-Sergeant H. Nuttall said that the contents of tlie deceased 's stomach were sent to Dr. P. Lyneh, >athologist at Wellington, for ex^mination. Witness produced a certifieate from Dr. Lynch stating that the cause of death was coronary thrombosis (heart trouble).
