INQUIRIES OF POLICE
Unusual Questions Unusual questions are often put to members of the police force by the general public as the fohovving three, taken at random from the inquiries made at the Hastings Police Station, will show: — "Where is the best plac6 to have an umbrella repaireJ?" "Will you destroy a dog, please?" 'Will you find a home for this kittenP" in the words of the old song, "lf you want to know the time, . ask a policeman," but that is apparently only part of the knowledge that our police are expected to impart. %o a edrtain section of the public the man in blue is expected to be a guide and mentor on any problem that besets them, and these three questions given above are only a few . which are made of the officer in charge of the watchhouse at Hastings. "And what do you do with these questions?" asked the reporter of the constahle. "Well, if we know, we try to gxve them the .information required," was the reply, "But sopietimes it's a 1>it difficult." One pf the questions asked oi one meinber of the Hastings force was to determine tbe value of a wedding ling, and for once. tha officer was at a lcss.
