Survey in Progress at Waipawa

From

WAIPAWA, This Day. Three of the Public Works Department's surveyors, Messi's Wilkiet Gerrard and Watters, are now in Waipawa eompleting a survey of the site for a new trafiio bridge parallel with the new railway bridgo. The matter was brought to the notice of the Minister of Puhlic Works, the Hon. R. Semple, on his reeent visit to Waipawa. He was impressed with the proposal that a new bi'idge should be erected which would carry the ma-n highway straight from the main street to the reserve at the south side of the river, shortening the distance to Wellington by some two miles and giving a much more direct and convenient route. The Minister said that the demands on the Highways Board' s fiinds might prevent the work from being carried out atr once, but he considered it was one of the necessary works, and promised that the project would receive early consideration. That the matter has not been lost sight of, is disclosed by the pi'esence of the department's surveyors, and the completion of the prelimmary survey worls will w decided step forwafd.
