IN THE PRESS SEATS

WRITERS IN AUSTRALIA

Sections provided for Press wrlters at the leading Australian cricket grounds are singularly ill-placed. Best view is to be had from the new Press quarters in Sydney on the top deck of the new, pavilion. It is just 10 or 15 feet too high, Apart from this, however, it is superior to anything on the other grounds. The angle at Brisbane is very fair. In Melbourne it is bad, and in Adelaide worst of all, that is, for anyone desiring to know what the bowler is doing, and how the striker is really shaping. From the ordinary speetator's view-point the Adelaide .position square-on is splendid. In Melbourne at the Test a Referes writer did not use the Press section. On the upper deck of the members' pavilion a splendid view was had, though, of course, there was no convenience for writing apart from one'r knee, and there was the risk of losing one's seat. In this case, thanks to strangers on either side, who were good sportsmen, one's seat was preserved as thqugh it were at Lord's, with but a hat to say it waa occupied.
