SCOT CATCHES A TARTER
HE PLAYED "JUST A LEETLE" Nothing could be much more amusing than the N.S.W. bowler Tam Ridgeway's experience in the Old World. He found his way to Scotland and, meandering down to a leading clubhouse in Edinburgh, discovered a restless Scottish international champion pacing up and down the green, and expressing himself in terms of nori-endearment towards a friend who had pronfised him some practice against the coming Australians. He looked at Tom. asked him did he play, and when the Carltonian weakly and meekly murmured "Just a little," invited him to give him a game. "Y'r play jeest a leetle, eh? Then I'll gie ye 10 start." That suited Tom. But when the unassumlng visitor won by 10, "hard held," the Scot murmured, "Jeest a lettle, eh? Well, I'll jeest gie ye 8 this time." Tom won by a mile, and the Edinboro champion shortened his odds to: "Jeest a leetle, eh?' I'll no' gie ye ony!" On level terms the Carlton man let himself out, and then told his Iiost that he was also glad of the practice, as possibiy they would meet later. What the Scot said in reply even "Truthful Tom" forbids me to print. But we must feel regret that he did not encounter Tom Burrows.
