New Zealand Athletic and Axemen's Union HELD AT WAIPUKURAU

WAIPUKURAU, Jan. 22. The bi-annual conference of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling and Axemen's Union was held at Waipukurau yesterday. Mr H. H. Fraser, the Dominion president, took the chair. In his openiug speech, the president sounded an optimistic note, and said he thought the association could look forward to a steady increase in registrations in the future. Delegates were piesent from Sout* Canterbury, West Coast, Otago, Southland, Nelson and Marlborough, Taranaki, Rangitikei, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Poverty Bay, Canterbury, Christchurch Enfield, Dunedin, Otorahanga and Auckland. Mr J W. Watkins, president of the Hawke's Bay Oentre, welcomed the delegates. Mr Fraser responded on behalf of the visitors. The president extended a special welcome to the delegates of +.he Northern Union, who had not been ;able to attend a conference of delegates for 21 years. Members stood in silence in respect to Messrs J. Wilson and R. Campbell.
