Taupo Man Struck by Wire Rope

TAUPO, Jan. 22. A serious accident occurred to-day at Oruanui to Robert McLaughlin, aged 22, while employed as a bushman in connection with Khau's mill. He was assisting with the hauling of a log in the bush when the wire rope slipped from a stump, knocked him down and struck him again when it recoiled. Mr McLaughlin was attended to by Dr. J. Scaife Armstrong, of Taupo, and removed to the King George Hospital at Rotorua in an unconscious condition. His injuries, which are serious, include a broken leg and badly bruised chest.

WAIROA, Jan. 23. The mob of cattle which stampeded at the approach to the traffic bridge at Frasertown yesterday belonged to Mr J. Boyd, Clydebank. The mob was proceeding to Mr Sainsbury's property on the Waikaremoana road. The drovers, who were injured, were Mcssrs G. White and A. Stevens. Seven of the animals were killed.
