Waikato Dairy Companies Lack Storage FREEZING HOLD-jUP

HAMrLTQN, Jan. 16: Uncertainty as to whether the limited number of permanent men employed at the freezing works can handle- the now mai supply of butter and cheese made daily at the dairy factories, togethef with the risk of the produce deteriorat* ing if kept in railway trucks, has cauw ed the dairy companies of the Waikato distriet to cease sending consignments of butter and cheese to the works as from to-day, The Railway Department'# transport staff has received instructiona to use extreme care in the handling of dairy produce and to ensure that ii ia properly stowed in insulated waggons* l'nquiries made among the dairy com* panies of the distriet indicate that thd hold-up at the freezing works is viewed with grave concern. All companies hav# iimited space for the storage of produce in their coolers, and unless tha freezing-works dispute is settled in tho meantime farmers may expect to ba ndvised on Monday that supplies of milk and eream cannot be accepted. Beferring to the position to-day, Mn C. J. Parlane, general manager of thq New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co.t which last season prodnced 64,348 tons of produce and is likely to produce more this season, said that the situation' could only be regarded as being extremely serious. In his opinion it was neeessary for the Government to take a firm stand in seeing that the dairy mdustry was allowed to be carried on without undue interruptiohs due to I®* bour disputes.
