ELECTION OF OFFICERS

WEEKLY MEETINGS PLANNED

A mooting of people interested in the formation of a debating society was held in the Methodist Olvurch recently. The Rev. A. It. Penn, convener of the meeting, was elected chairman. Mr. Pepn outlined his reasons for calling the meeting. Debating, be said, besides providing some social recreation was also educational. He proposed that the society should cover debating, play-reading and the study of literature, etc., with the aim of general culture of its members. It was decided that a society be formed and he named the Opunake Literary and Debating Society. A provisional syllabus committee was elected consistincr of Miss McOrea, the Rev. Penn and Mr. R. Hughson. Mr. L. Ashworth was elected secretary. It was decided to meet each Friday night, the first meeting to be held on Friday, .Tune 16.
