ART GALLERY BERATED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Oct. 27. Mi 1 ; Fisher, Director of the Elam School of Art, in an address to the Lyceum Club, said: “On my first visit to your Art Gallery I felt I would like to pull the rubbish down and get it away, with the exception of about four pictures, which I would not destroy. Happily blessed as this citv is with so many endowments, I was" surprised that you had not purchased any works of value. A poor man may even possess a fine art gallery because he can purchase a shilling cop v of great masters.”
Mr. Fisher recently arrived from London, having been appointed successor to Mr. Paton, who retired after a quarter of a century as Director of the Elam School
