9000-MILE CRUISE.
BY AMERICAN AIRSHIP., BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT NEW YORK, Oct. 26. Aboard the dirigible Shenandoah, new history of lighter-than-air navigation was written, when the Shenandoah hovered over the hangars at Lakehurst, New Jersey, after completing a record-breaking 9000-mile cruise. The dirigible crossed the United States and returned in 13 days 23 hours. The engines were running for a total of 257 hours 38 minutes, and the dirigible was moored for 187 hours 26 minutes. The ship kept up constant communication by means of radio with the land, making new discoveries in regard to radio communication at high altitudes! The 500-horse-power motors ran without a stop diving the sailing period, and the fuel consumption, including that used for the radio generator and cooking range, worked out at a gallon per mile.— Aus.-N.Z.
