THE NATIVE PARK.
CONSIDER ABLE PROC4RESS. During the past -two weeks a- considerable amount of work has been carried out at the East- End Native Park under the supervision of Mg Garnett. Various footpaths have been cut-around the gully and formation work across the dam at the upper end has been carried out. The idea, of transforming this niece of land into a picturesque native park is well on the way :o accomplishment. Quite- a large nuinner of tree ferns and native trees have been planted, and the collection has been ccpsidefa-bly augmented this week by the generosity of the well-known nurserymen of New Plymouth. Messrs Duncan and Davies, who made a presentation of a choice collection of native trees, which included a .rimu, purple Rungiora, tcru, bronze ginwood, Dacrydium Kirkii, three beeches and a kum-erahou. In a letter accompanying the donation, Mr Davies writes as follows: —“We are pleased to hear that you arc contemplating a park for New Zealand native trees in Hawera. It is a. tiling that is very much required in that town and will pre-ve a- great asset to the district. We will be very pleased to assist you in any way we can. Wishing you every success in your venture, which will prove a boon to those interested in our native flora.” Mr Barraclough has also donated the following trees: —Six pohutukawas, two puriris, two red manukas, one ngaio, and one kauri.
