McClellan, of the Cawthron Institute staff, met with an unfortunate accident on the Mount Arthur track on Sunday, whereby his left leg was broken jnst above the ankle, caused by slipping when endeavouring to turn some cattle on to the track. Other parties were in the vicinity and gave assistance, and eventually a horse was secured and the injured man brought down from the mountain track. KILLED BY ENGINE. CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. Henry YYoodlev, aged 62, a married mail and a retired farmer, late of Earnslaw station, Glenorchy, Otago was struck by an engine at the Elisor's Road crossing at Opawa to-night while walking over the line, receving injuries from which he died on the way to the hospital in an ambulance. A MAN’S FATAL FALL. . CARTERTON, July 30. The inquest on Frank H. Rushton was resumed at, Grey town yesterday. The evidence showed that a party of 10 men took 10 gallons of beer and" a bottle of whisky, besides bottled beer, to a. efface outside Grey town, and returned at 3.30 on Sunday morning. Deceased found a horse left hv his companions. It is surmised that he became sick or tell asleep on the horse, and fell to the road, striking his head and .fracturing the skull at the base. Medical evil denee was to the effect that there was no hone for the man whatever had been done. First, considering the debased was drunk, his employer, J. Me.ikle, with assistance, had nut him to bed and left him for some hours. He could not rouse him for breakfast, and sent for a doctor, who uronounebd the man to be unconscious and ordered his removal to hospital, where he died a few hours later. The verdict was that death was due to accidentally falliuo-, from a. horse- and fracturing the base of the skull.
