, A CASE TO ANSWER. (by TELEGRAPH PREBB ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, July 3. In connection with the charge of forgery against Edward Jack Cromer, who was found by the police in a hotel bar splitting a £l?bank note in deciding that a prima. facie case had hpen established. Mr. E. Page, S.M., in regard to counsel’s contention that a divided bank note dij not constitute a false document, said he thought that the dividing up of a ope pound so that it may be taken as two pounds came within the provisions of the Act. "A person who is in possession of a forged hank note is liable to be indicted and convicted. The onus is on the accused to satisfy a court or iurv that, the. possession of it i s lawful.”' The--accused was committed for trial at. the Supreme Court. Bail was fixed at £3OO.
