RIVERLEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) , SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Thp monthly meeting of the local school committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs. B. L. Webby (chairman), W. W. Lonsdale and M. F. Youljairc. The .chairman reported that the school cleaners considered that- now that the school was so much larger there should be Some increase in remuneration, and after some discussion, it was resolved,-on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Lonsdale, to increase the pay by sixpence per day. On the motion of Mr. Lonsdale, seconded by Mr. Voullaire, it was left in the hands of the chairman to arrange re levelling at back of school and obtaining metal for around building. It was decided to purchase half a hundredweight of burnt lime for outliGuses. ! The chairman reported that the headmaster had complained re the unsatisfactory position and insufficiency of wash-basins provided for the use of the children, and, it being the opinio?) of all present that, there was good reason for complaint it was resolved that the board's attention be drawn to the matter immediately, and it was left in the hands of the chairman to write to the board on the matter. 'DANCE. On Monday evening an enjoyable dance was-held, here in aid of clie sports Queen. Miss Crowley, in the Ivaponga Queen Carnival. Unfortunately the many counter attractions that night militated somewhat against the attendance. Excellent music was provided by Miss Bennie and extras were played by Miss Symes. A plentiful and good supper was handed round by the- ladies’ committee, and the duties of M.C. were ably canned out by Mr. Radler. At the conclusion of the dance Mr. T. Malone, secretary of Miss Crowley's commit too. thanked those present for their attendance and the fact that despite counter attractions the dance had been so successful as it had been.
