CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.
(Per Press Association. —Copyright.) Sydney, May 20. At the conference of the Chambers of Commerce Mr Geddes (Sydney) read a paper reviewing the meat export trade in which he strongly urged the necessity of improving the present unsatisfactory methods of storage, distribution, and sale in Europe. He suggested that a joint Australian commercial representative should be attached to the British Consular offices on the Continent, and replacing the existent comparatively dormant official representation in England with a living commercial influence. The conference resolved to invite the co-operation of the London Chamber to facilitate the sale of frozen meat in Britain and the Continent. The main point to be overcome, in the opinion of the conference, being economy in storage and modes of distribution. Mr Jackson (of the Union Steamship Company) read a paper on Federal Quarantine.
