Dr Leyds has arrived in London en route for the The Hague, to assume, the position of Transvaal Minister, Plenopotentiary, and Envoy Extraordinary to Germany and the Netherlands. He has had several interviews with Mr Chamberlain, as the result of which a settlement of the difficulties between Great Britain and the Transvaal is probable. Oscar Wilde, who in May, 1895, waa sentenced to two years' imprisonment, has been released from prison. Princess Louise has opened a hospital in London, established for the cure of wounds by means of oxygen. Chief Justice Way, who was yesterday summoned to the Privy Council, has been asked to attend throughout the sittings. The Right Rev. Joseph F. Peacock, D.D., Bishop of Meath, has been elected Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland in succession to Lord Plunkett. Wool market is very firm. Purchasing on behalf of Continental manufacturers is more active. Berlin, May 19. A train conveying 1000 German soldiers was derailed near Groistein, in Rhenish Prussia. Nine were killed and 35 injured.
