♦ SPIRITED COMPETITION. London, July 1. A total of 9918 bales were catalogued on the opening day of the wool sales, but there was only a mediocre selection. There was a large attendance of buyers from Home and the Continent, but the Americans were absent. Competition was spirited. The effect of offering a splendid selection of wools to-day has had the effect of making competition keen.
