THE WOOL SALES.
♦ SPIRITED COMPETITION. London, July 1. A total of 9918 bales were catalogued on the opening day of the wool sales, but there was only a mediocre selection. There was a large attendance of buyers from Home and the Continent, but the Americans were absent. Competition was spirited. Crossbreds were unchanged, 1 tit merinos declined 5 per cent., this bc-ing most noticeable in inferior sorts. Later. The wool sales continue firm at opening rates. July 3. The effect of offering a splendid selection of wools to-day has had the effect of making competition keen.
