AUSTRALIAN T. AND G. LIFE ASSURANCE SOCIETY
REPORTS RECORD YEAR. WELLINGTON, November 11. The Directors of the Australasian Temperance and General Mutual Life Assurance -Society, Limited, report that the new business completed during the financial year ended 30th. September, 1948, was a record in the history of the Society. The whole of the business was written in Australia and New Zealhnd. In the ordinary department there were 44,475 policies, assuring £19,668,911, and in the Industrial Department 79,625 policies, assuring £8,630,749. The total life business issued (excluding annuities and temporary assurances) was 124,100 policies, assuring £28,299,660. An increasing proportion of the new business secured, in the ordinary department was obtained from group assurance and staff superannuation schemes, a large number of firms and companies having entrusted their superannuation schemes to the Society during the past year. In the Accident Department there were written 12,210 personal accident and sickness policies for £4,315,975; and 30,815 Ordinary and Industrial Assurances were endorsed with accident benefits for £7,460,774.
