Westport Council Decisions

The following resolutions were received from the various committees by the Westport Borough Council at its meeting and were adopted:— That accounts as scheduled in the district tuna ana in tne gas and water loans amounting to £6491 18s Id be passed for payment. That the date of opening of the swimimng baths be left in the hands of the chairman and the Town Clerk. That the Watersiders’ Cricket Club arrange with the Buller Cricket Association and the Buller Softball Association regarding play on Victoria Square, and that the same facilities as extended to the Cricket Association, for laying pitches on Victoria Square, be granted to this club to lay pitches on Kilkenny Park. That the Westport Fire Board be advised that the water pressure in Palmerston Street is ample at present and when loans works are completed it will be even better, so that the expense of laying a four-inch pipe into the old stormwater drain from the corner of Palmerston and Brougham Streets would not be warranted. That Mr Tregrove be advised that permission cannot be given for a 30 gallon electric water heater to be installed in the Kawatiri maternity block, on account of the supply position and also in view of the request of the Mines Department, for the demand for power to be kept down until the Ngakawau plant is connected with Denniston; and that he be further advised that the Council can supply gas water heaters similar to those in use at present at the maternity block; that the gas manager be authorised to engage the trenching machine at present in the district for a trial block in connection with the laying of the new gas main in Derby Street.
