ARMED BANDITS HOLD UP BANK IN QUEENSLAND
BRISBANE, October 13.
Three men, armed with revolvers, held up the English, Scottish and Australian Bank in the country township of Samford, 16 miles from Brisbane and escaped after stealing about £350. They used a sedan car owned by Mr E. W. Russell, a member of the Queensland Parliament, which 'had been stolen from Brisbane during the week-end. It was found later this afternoon burned out two' miles from the scene of the robbery. Police have been rushed to the area and are blocking; all roads, while detectives are scouring the heavily timbered country in the Samford area. The bank manager, Mr J. Milford, and his assistant, Mr J. Sullivan, who were alone in the ba_nk at the time, were ordered to stand against the wall, with their hands up. One man went to the open strongroom, seized money from the safe and stuffed it into a canvas bag while the other two kept the'bank officers covered. Meanwhile, a fourth man kept the car engine running and drove off at high speed when the bandits boarded the car.
