Navy Taking Over Weather Stations
WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. The Royal New Zealand Navy has agreed to take over certain of the shipping commitments at presen carried out by the Ministry of Works Announcing this to-day, as chairman of the Naval Board, the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones) said the commitments mainly concerned were those connected with the servicing of Government meteorological ant. ionosphere stations in the Kermadec group and Campbell Island. This ar-| rangement will relieve the Ministry of Works of the expenditure invoiv-, ed in meeting .these shioping commitments, and the Navy has arranged to combine these requirements with naval operations and training. H.M.N.Z.S. Kiwi, which is now undergoing repairs at Auckland, is expected to undertake the first naval visit to Campbell Island in November.
