N.Z. POLICE FORCE BELOW STRENGTH

WELLINGTON, Oct. 6

The New Zealand Police Force was at present 60 below strength, and, if an earlier retiring age and other proposals weer brought into effect, numoers of recruits would be required, said the Deputy Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. W. Nash, opening the thirteenth annual conference to-day of the New Zealand Police Force Association. He congratulated the police on theii’ work during the year and said the cost of administration was one of the lowest in the world per capita. Inspector Young expressed the opinion that the formation of the association had not been a weakening factor in the discipline of the force.
