Drop in Births and Deaths in Past Nine Months
Although there was a very notable decline from 44 in September, 1947, to 23 in the number of births registered at Greymouth last month, the decrease during the first nine months of the present year is only 24. the figures being: 1947, 321; 1948, 297. As with births, there has been a decrease in the number of deaths by e'ght during the same period, while marriage notices issued dropped by 15. However, marriages by the registrar seem to have become more popular, as there has been 22 so far this year, compared with 16 in the first nine months of last year.
