OBITUARY

Mr J. R. E. Hahn

1 A very old and highly s P e T ct resident of the Otira Line, Mr John . Richard Edward Hahn, died at his home at Moana on Thursday at the age of 64 years. He came from Oxford. Canterbury, to Kokin as a boy with his parents, and later worked at Nyberg's and the Lake Brunner Sawmilling Cov’s. mills, being employed in the industry for 45 years. Prominent in snorting circles, Mr Hahn was a keen member of the i Moana Regatta Club. In his younger days he was a keen axeman and sawyer, and won many events at sports meetings both in the North ' and South Islands. He to,ok a lead- : ing part in forming and training the 1 Moana tug-o’-war teams which comj peted successfully at Dunedin and I other places many years ago. j The late Mr Hahn is survived by j his wife and six step-children, the ■ sons being George (Blenheim), ReI ginaid (Burnham) and Eric (Moana) and the daughters, Mesdames Barclay (Christchurch), Thomas (Rangiora) and Honey (Aratika). There are also two brothers, Messrs H. Hahn 1 (Christchurch) and O. Hahn (Hoki- ■ tika) and five sisters, Mesdames New- • man (Greymouth), Wilson (Kokiri), Coburn (Greymouth), Wilson and 1 Hardy (Christchurch) j The funeral takes place at Christchurch to-morrow, and the remains will b e cremated. Mr John McLean ! The death of Mr. John Thomas McLean occurred yesterday morning at his residence, Newcastle Street, Cobden. Aged 48 years. Mr. McLean served his apprenticeship at the Dispatch Foundry, Greymouth, obtained his marine tickets and served at sea for a number of years with the Anchor Shinping Company. He was a former member of the Cobden Fire Brigade, I and until his retirement was employed as a turner and fitter by the Greymouth Harbour Board.

Mr. McLean is survived by his wife, one son, Robert (Cobden) and two sisters, Mesdames A. Graham (Rotomanu) and T. Hardie (Wellington). The funeral will leave his late residence at 3 p.m. to-morrow for the Karoro Cemetery.
