STRONGER DEFENCE POLICY ADOPTED BY AUSTRALIAN LABOUR
FULL CO-OPERATION WITH UNITED NATIONS
CANBERRA, September 30.
New planks in the defence programme of the Australian Labour Party had been fashioned as a result of the decision of the triennial Federal conference of the LabourParty that the Federal Labour Government may send voluntarily recruited Australian troops to any part of the world, but that all forms of conscription should ne opposed. i’he> are;—
1. The maintenance of Australia as an integral part of the British commonwealth of Nations.
2. Complete co-operation with other units of the British Commonwealth in order to ensure co-opera-tive action against aggression. 3. Co-operation within the British Commonwealth in support of the United Nations for the purpose of maintaining international peace’ and security. 4. An intense investigation of atomic and biological ’warfare with a view to the development of adequate protection for the civilian population. 5. A national survey of all industries to ascertain their potential value for defence purposes. 6. Mobilisation of the entire resources of the nation in the event of an attack. , 7. Government control of the manufacture of munitions of war.
