PRISONERS ESCAPE FROM MT. EDEN JAIL
P.A. AUCKLAND, Sept. 30. While working in the quarry ot the Auckland prison, two prisoners escaped about 4.30 p.m. to-day. The men had not been traced at a late hour tonight. me two men are: James Daniel Pease, aged 23, who is serving a sentence for escaping from prison; and Peter Seaton Young, aged 28, who is serving a sentence tor shop breaking and car Conversion.
The two men were engaged in work in the prison quarry, and they were found to be missing shortly before 4.30 p.m. They were .next seen near a tea kiosk on the slopes of Mount Eden. The escapees then appeared to be making for the top of the mountain and tne Epsom district. Parties oi warders and police were quickly organised and made a thorough search of the slopes of Mount Eden, particularly in the wooded portion on the western side. Police patrol cars watched all the main roads. These efforts, however, were unsuccessful. The search continues.
