U.S. JET PLANE BREAKS WORLD RECORD
DETROIT, Sept. 18. A new world air speed record of 670.98 miles an hour has been set by Major Richard Johnson, a 30-year-old war ace and test, pilot. Announcing this, thQ Air Secretary, S. Stuart Symington, said that the speed runs were made over an official course at Muroc, California, on Wednesday, in a F. 86 jet fighter, which is a production model, mounting guns and carrying ammunition.
