Communist Attacks in North China Are Stepped Up

SHANGHAI, Sept. 15

Crack Chinese Nationalist . troops are reported to be pouring into the battle area to stem Communist attacks against a 150-mile stretch . of the Pekin-Mukden railway, the vital corridor link with Manchuria. General Lin’s Communist armies have intensified attacks on strategic points between Chinchow, and the coalmining centre of Tangshan, and the Nationalists have been forced to evacuate several railway stations and to make a strategic withdrawal from the outskirts of the important city of Changli. In Shantung a major Communist offensive against Chifoo is said to be imminent.
