Warrant For Arrest Of Missing Trades Council Secretary

AUCKLAND, Aug. 30 A warrant for the arrest of Walter Ashton, aged 41, a former secretary of the Auckland Trades Council and a member of the national executive of the Communist Party, was issued to-day on the application of the police. v .. The warrant charges Ashton with stealing in October, 1946, the sum of £1623 from the New Zealand Federation of Labour. Ashton disappeared on April 23 and his motor-car was found on Piha beach Whether the issue of the warrant is a matter of form has not been officially stated. There have been rumours that Ashton was not drowned and that he may be in Australia.
