Cheaper Overseas Airways Fares

AUCKLAND, Aug 31. The return of New Zealand currency to parity with sterling has had the effect of increasing the fares paid in Australia or Fiji for travel on New Zealand’s two airlines, Tasman Empire Airways and National Airways Corporation. Both these com-’ panies base their operations on New Zealand currency. Fares paid in New Zealand money are unchanged but a passenger who is travelling by flying boat from Suva to Auckland now pays £3l 14s (Fijian currency) instead of the previous £25 13s. Similarly the fare for the Tasman flight has risen from £2B to £35 (Australian). Norfolk Islanders who use Australian money are now charged £l5 Ils instead of £l2 10s for an air trip to Auckland. New Zealanders who travel abroad sterling or dollar basis benefit by the altered exchange. Fares in New Zealand currency for British Commonwealth Pacific Airline and Pan American Airways have been automatically reduced.
