Star Club’s Jubilee Ball
The Star Rugby Football Club concluded its Golden Jubilee celebrations last evening with a grand hall, held in the Sturge Street Hall, Cobden. The function proved a great success, supporters and friends from all over Westland joining in to the tune of the Mayfair Orchestra, and danced many old favourites, including some which were popular in the days gone by. The hall was beautifully decorate'd with multicoloured streamers, scintillating fairy lights, masses of gaily coloured balloons and sweeping palm fronds, mingled with appropriate clumps of foliage and flowers. Several old-timers could be seen waltzing their way with comparative ease among the dancers. Many of the ladies were daintily dressed and wore gowns that skimmed the floor. The materials used varied from chiffon, georgette and lace to the shimmering folds of satin and taffeta and the crisi) simplicity of Swiss muslin and organdi. Those present entertained themselves by taking part in several novelties including a “lucky spot” and balloon dance. A delightful supper was served by the ladies’ committee.
