AIR CONFERENCES OPEN THIS MONTH

WELLINGTON, Aug 9. _ The Australian Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr A. S. Drakeford, will arrive at Auckland on August IS and proceed to Wellington the same day to attend two important air conferences. These are the Committee of Air Navigation and Ground Organisation meeting on August 18, and the South Pacific Air Travel Council, scheduled to. meet on August 25. The first party of Australian delegates will arrive at Auckland on August 17, and include Mr Hepburn, director of airports, and Mr W. A. Dwyer, superintendent of aviation,, and the following as advisers: Mr V. W. Gibbs, senior airways engineer; Mr G. Unkles, supervisor of A.T.C.; Mr J. F. Lowry, supervisor of communications; and Mr H. S. Griffiths, senior clerk and secretary to both delegations. Additional Australian representatives will arrive at Auckland on August 24 for the second conference. They will be Air Marshal R. Williams, director-general, and Mr A. B McFarlane, director of air transport and external relations. The advisers will be Mr H E. Swan, international liason officer; Mr E. A. Young, senior research officer, Mr S. M. Wellard, chief investigation officer: .Mr T. H. Pitcher, secretary of the Transpacific Committee; JVTr A. W chairman of 8.C.P.A.; Mr A. Barlow general manager of B.CP.A.; and Mr H. Harman, general manager of Quantas Empire Airways. Further Australian representatives will include Mr G. P. N-, Watt, assistant-secretary to the Treasury, who is due on August 25, and Mr J. B. Mills .engineering superintendent, for 8.C.P.A., and Mr I. O. Lawson, accountant for 8.C.F.A., who will arrive at Auckland, via Fiji from Sydney on August 24; also Mr W. H. Burchett, who will arrive on August 14 to make preliminary arrangements. Mr Drakeford will return to Canberra by air from Auckland on August 28. The Now Zealand and Unite'’ Kingdom delegations to the confer ences have noi yet been announced
