West Coast Trades Council Against Compulsion At a meeting of the West Coast Trades Council on Friday night a resolution opposing compulsory service for either military or national purposes was carried without dissent. Speakers for the resolution stated that they recognised that compulsion for either purpose, in peace-time was against the interests of the working class and that, with the shortage of labour which exists at present, the suggestion of compulsory military service seemed ridiculous as well as unnecessary.
