COAL BILL DOES NOT AFFECT MINE OWNERSHIP
P.A. WELLINGTON, Aug 6. This Bill does not affect the private ownership of coal mines,” said the Minister of Mines, Hon. A. McLagan, tonight, commenting on the position of private coal mines under the Coal Bill, which was introduced to the House of Representatives las't evening.
“The Bill transfers the ownership of coal seams to the State, where they are now privately owned,” said the Minister. He added 4 hat most of the important coal nlines were alreadv owned by the State, and nearly all of the remaining important mines were under offer to the State.
