FAVOURABLE REACTION

AUCKLAND. August 6 The Coal Bill before the House of Representatives was not a measure to confiscate the coal-mining companies but one to enable the State to acquire the ownership of all coal seams in the Dominion, coal mine 'interests in Auckland pointed out to-day. In future the State will collect royalties from any company or person mining coal. “This legislation does not compel coal-mining companies to sell out to the State,” said a representative of a Waikato company. “The companies may continue to 1 operate their plant and retain their assets. Any question of selling out to the State would be the subject of negotiation.” The reaction of the Waikato coal company interests to the Coal Bill is mainly favourable.
