License for Extra Greymouth Taxi Refused
An application bv Neil Michael Mcrressey, which came before the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr E. M. Arnold, last month lor a new continuous taxi-cab license, has been refused. The application, if granted, would have meant an in; crease of one car in Greymouth s taxi fleet. . t ■•subject to the approval of the Stabilisation Commission, Greymoutn taxi operators will soon receive more for their out-of-town runs. The application for this increase was before the authority last month It was for an increase from 10d to 1/- per mile for country running and an increase from 6/- to 10/- per hour for waiting time. Mr Arnold had previously reserved his decision. Until the decision of the Stabilisation Commission is announced, the present rate of fares will be charged. Tne commission, when it grants an increase, will i decide whether the public is to bear the increased cost, or whether it will be met by' way' ol subsidy'. When the operators applied io; the increased schedule, they indicated that they would not need an increase in the rate for town running.
