Greek Soldiers Massacre Communists

ATHENS, April 14.

A mechanised company of gendarmerie revolted and raided a gaol at Sparta. They killed 25 Communist prisoners. The gendarmerie major in charge of the prison was killed in attempting to prevent the massacre. The attack was reported to be a reprisal for the blowing up of a lorry load of gendarmerie m which one was killed and three wounded. LONDON, April 14. The editor of the Daily Mail,. Mr Frank Owen, , addressing the Eighty Club after a tour of America, said the war scare there was intense. “If someone announced over a microphone that Red Army paratroops were dropping on Manhattan Island, there yvould be an unprecedented stampede of the human herd”, said Mr Owen. He added that Americans had again, as in 1940/come to regard the British as their stout-hearted front line of defence. 1
