A. & P. Association
In the absence of the president, Mr S. S. Lowe, the past-president, Mr L. Menzies, presided at the meeting of the general committee held on Tuesday evening. There were also present, Messrs H. Palmer, M. Durkin, J. Walsh, W. Currie, W. McLaughlin. F. Skilton and R. Lowe. The secretary reported that Mi' F. Skilton had refused to accept the prize money for the steer riding event of which he had been judged the winner but in which several competitors had not had the opportunity of competing. The donation of Mr D. J. Cunningham and Mrs A. Thompson of prize money to the funds were received with thanks. A hearty vote of thanks to the ladies’ committee for their good services was carried and the secretary was instructed to request Mrs Stowgll to convey it to the members of her committee. Votes of thanks to the judges, to Messrs H. Taylor and E. Phibbs for broadcasting, and all those who assisted in connection with competitions and side shows were also passed. The secretary was instructed to forward the Westport Band a cheque for three guineas and to thank them for supplying the music on People’s Day. Messrs Menzies, Palmer and Durkin were appointed a committee to meet the Racing Club’s combined grounds committee to discuss a renewal of the lease.
The secretary submitted a statement of receipts and payments in connection with the recent show. Subscriptions and other amounts outstanding amounted to £4O and when these amounts were received it was estimated that a surplus of £36 would be shown.
The chairman referred appreciatively to the services of Messrs J. Walsh. W. Currie. W. McLaughlin jnr., T. Fox, M. and R. Mclntyre and W. Johnston. They had given good services to the association in their first years of membership and had been of great assistance on People’s Day. Mr Menzies’ remarks were endorsed by other members present who pointed out that with new enthusiastic members taking an interest, the continued success of the Association would be assured. A discussion also took place on thg advisability of having two judges for the cattle section and further consideration was held over until a later date.
Mrs J. W. Stowell presided at a meeting of the Ladies’ Committee held on Monday. The statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent show was adopted as satisfactory. A vote of thanks to Mrs Crase for the use of articles ]ppt by her was passed
