Free of Disease
The borough inspector. Mr A. E. G. Knight, in his annual report to the Westport Borough Council, stated: — “I am pleased to advise that no’infectious diseases were notified in the Westport borough during the year. The residents in the borough are becoming more disease minded, and are keeping their sections clean of litter and rubbish, and also having bad sanitary plumbing and drainage attended to. The weekly rubbish collection now in operation, although still in its infancy, will no doubt expand as more people take advantage of 'this service and will thus save the rubbish being broadcast about backyards. >< I "The rubbish dump has been regraded and levelled, the road in has been regraded, a concrete shed has been erected to house tools for the caretaker. The dump is now free of the fly and rat nuisance, and so long as a caretaker remains permanently in charge, the dump should be in a first-class condition for many years”. Mr Knight also reported that all hotels in the Westport borough have been inspected, and reported on. Several licensees had received notices to carry out repairs and renovations prior to the annual licensing meeting in June.
