Escaped Crocodile Scares Darwinians
DARWIN, April 12.
A six-foot crocodile scattered shoppers when it escaped from the back of a lorry in a Darwin street, Traffic stopped and citizens took cover while the crocodile careered wildly about, dodging behind cars and buildings before it was icaptured. The trouble started when two fishermen found a small crocodile in a fish trap near one of Darwin’s most popular beaches. They were binding its legs, intending to send it to a southern zoo, when a larger crocodile came up behind them, snapping its jaws and lashing its tail. One man fought the larger crocodile alone and unarmed, finally managing to throw and bind it.
It was this crocodile which broke loose in Darwin.
Last year one of these men captured a 14-foot crocodile and shipped it to Taronga Park Zoo, Sydney.
