PRICES IMPROVE FOR SOUTHDOWN WOOL

P.A. INVERCARGILL, April 12. An outstanding feature of the final Southland wool sale to-day was a keen demand for Southdown wool, and all good and super classes, of this descrintion sold at rates in excess of recent sales, stated the official report issued by the Invercargill Stock Agents’ and Woolbrokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission. Continental buyers dominated the market. There was a good clearance of 16,426 bales. Good style wools and good colour showing any degree of soundness were keenly sought after. Extra fine cross-bred wools sold particularly well, and high prices were secured for coarse cross-bred wools for the carpet trade. Representing Bradford. Continental, Australian and New Zealand firms mor e than 50 buyers attended. The keenest bidding came from the group of Continental buyers.

Extra fine cross-bred, 56’s: Good to super 40d to 42d, average 37d to 39M. Fine cross-bred. 50/56’s: Good to super 35d to 37d. average 32d to 34d, inferior 25d to 30d. Fine cross-bred 52’s: Good to super 30d to 34d, average 27d to 30d, inferior 24d to 27d. Fine cross-bred, 50’s: Food to super 28d to 32d, average 25d to 28d. inferior 21 d to' 24d. Cross-bred. 48/50’s: Good 2'6d to 29d, average 23d to 26d, inferior 19d to 21d. Medium crossbred, 46/50’s: Good to super 22d to 24d. averag el9d to' 21d, inferior 14d to I,Bd.
