Miss M. Instone, who has been on a holiday visit to New Plymouth, returned on Saturday.
Mr and Mrs F. Blake, of Christchurch, who have been visiting Greymouth, leave this evening on their return.
Mr and Mrs A. McLean and family leave this morning for Auckland to join the Rangitata for England and Scotland.
Mr A. Cowie, and Mrs J. Cowie leave to-day for Auckland, en route to Scotland on an extended holiday.
The newly-appointed Salvation Army divisional young people’s secretary for Canterbury and Westland, Major FI. Goffin, is visiting Greymouth.
Mr and Mrs F. Clancy, of Christchurch, and Mr D. Greenland, Dandenong, Melbourne, who have been visiting the glaciers, left by last evening’s rail-car for Westport.
To take command of H.M.N..S. Bellona, Captain D. Hammersley Johnstone M.V.0., 0.8. E., R.N., has arrived at Wellington by the Ruahine from England. He is accompanied by'his wife, who will live- in Auckland. Captain Johnstone has served previously in Dominion waters, having been in H.M. Sloop “Laburnum” in 1930-31.
A Reuter cable from Singapore last night stated: Miss New Zealand (Miss Mary Wootton) continued her journey to England on Monday morning by a Qantas Constellation plane, after a three days’ stop in Singapore, because of air sickness. Qantas officials said that they would make her as comfortable as possible during the long flight.
The New Zealand bass, Oscar Natzke, who had been singing in Covent Garden, London, made his debut in one of the leading male roles of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” at New York City centre on Friday night, and sang as Sparafueile. He was appropriately villainous to the eye, and his voice was a treat to hear, said the New York Times. “Rich with resonance and colour, his voice proved to be a true basso, and one which should be in demand”.

Dental technicians will receive a weekly increase of 3s Id and dental process workers 4s Id, making their weekly rates £8 2s 6d and £7 2s 6d respectively. These rates are contained in the Dental Technicians’ and Dental Assistants’ Award. Female receptionists have also been granted increases rising from Is' 6d for juniors to 6s 3d for those _with three years’ service, the new minimum rate for seniors being £4 7s 6d. Female technicians who have not served an apprenticeship are to receive £7 2s 6d after six years’ employment as such. Female process workers shall be paid not less than three-fifths of the process workers’ rate, but after six years at process work shall be paid not less than the full process workers’ rate.
