Inquest Adjourned on Copland Pass Victims
WELLINGTON, April 11. The recent tragedy at Copland Pass was the subject of comment yesterday by the Minister in Charge of Tourist and Health Resorts (the Hon. W. E. Parry). “It is extremely unfortunate that young people, whilst indulging in healthy activity, should mete such a tragic end, he said. . .. , , “I would like to pay a. tribute to the action of the chief guide at The Hermitage and his assistants ter the way in which they took immediate action to see if anything could be done. There is no doubt that Guide Bowie has again proved himself a tower of strength, as he has done on a number of occasions when he has been called on to assist those in difAcuities in the rugged area he knows so well.” A TIMARU, April 11. At an inquest on those who died on Copland Pass, Norman Robins Wotton, Post Office mailroom supervisor, of 3 Hutton Street, Timaru, identified Miss Sullivan; lan Eugene Ingis Markby, accountant, of 142 Riccarton Road, Christchurch, gai’e evidence of identification of Miss Bust; William. David Jefcoate, a salesman, of Dunedin, identified his daughter. Mr M. C. Gresson watched the interests of Guide M. Sullivan who was with the party. In each case the Coroner ordered a. postmortem examination and adjourned the proceedings sine die.
