NO COUP IN ITALY, SAYS DE GASPERI
(Rec. 8.40). ROME, April 11. There will be no coup d’etat in Italy after the Italian general elections on Sunday next, April 18, declared the Prime Minister. Signor De Gasperi, in a speech at Pisa. Signor De Gasperi said: "There will be no need to worry during th.e crucial period from April 18. until three weeks later, when the new Parliament will convene to name a new President. Italy is not a Balkan country, where a regime can be improvised. I will hold power by force!” Anglo—U.S. Protest on Trieste Firing is Rejected by Yugoslavs (Rec. 8.10). BELGRADE, April 10. The Government of Yugoslavia has rejected the British and the United States Notes which were sent in protest against the action of Yugoslav troops in firing on British and American control posts in the Free. Territory of Trieste (cabled on April 7).. LONDON, April 10. Britain has sent Notes to Russia and Italy, suggesting preliminary discussions in Paris in May by the Powers concerned in the. question of the return of the Trieste Free Territory to Italy. She asks Russia to reply promptly to the proposal. Britain has also informed Yugoslavia about the Notes. It is understood the French ana American Governments are forwading similar Notes to Russia and Western Powers want to obtain a clear-cut statement from Russia, on Trieste.
